Parlour or private provider, which is right for you? Honest comparison of cost, safety, discretion, choice, and quality between Australian sensual massage parlours and independent private providers. Written by Luna.
There are two completely different experiences sold under "sensual massage" in Australia. One is a parlour: walk in off the street, pick from whoever's working, get an hour in a room behind the counter, pay at reception, leave. The other is a private provider: book in advance with one specific woman, meet at her address or yours, pay her directly, leave.
They serve different needs. They cost different money. They suit different visits. And the trade-offs are not what most first-timers think they are.
This is the comparison.
What each one actually is
A parlour (also called an AMP, Asian massage parlour, MP, or shop) is a commercial premises with multiple massage rooms, multiple workers on shift, and a receptionist at the front. You walk in, the receptionist tells you the rates, you choose a session length, you choose (sometimes) a worker from a lineup or photos. The door fee covers the room and the basic massage. Anything else is negotiated in the room with the woman.
The model is set up for walk-in availability. Most parlours don't require booking. Some do for specific workers, not for the room itself. The pricing is consistent across customers. The door fee is what it says.
A private provider (independent, indy, private, sometimes solo) is one woman operating her own business. She has her own listing (on Scarlet Blue, on a personal website, in this directory). She sets her own rates, her own schedule, her own services. She works from her own incall location (a private apartment, sometimes in the CBD or inner suburbs) or does outcalls to your hotel or home.
You book her by text, email, or through her listing. Booking is required. Prices are quoted upfront. The transaction is between you and her. No receptionist, no shop schedule, no other workers.

Cost: parlour wins on entry, independents win on ceiling
Real Brisbane and Gold Coast pricing in 2026:
Parlour, 60-minute FBSM: $150-$250 door fee. With hand finish included or +$50-$80. With body slide +$80-$150. With full service +$200-$400 (where offered). Total realistic spend for a basic visit: $200-$350.
Independent, 60-minute basic: $250-$400 base rate. Often with finish included in the rate. Full service either included in the rate (premium) or +$100-$200. Total realistic spend: $300-$600.
The crossover. A high-end parlour session with all the extras can hit $500-$700, which overlaps with mid-tier independents. The cheapest parlours sit well below the cheapest independents and probably always will. That's a function of the shop model spreading rent and overheads across multiple workers.
Where independents earn the premium. Specialisation (real NURU, real tantric, four-hand coordination), longer session lengths (90-120 minutes that don't fit parlour shifts), the relational style (GFE, conversation, eye contact, no rushing), and the woman herself. At the top tier you're paying for who she is, not just what she does.
For a regular cost-conscious punter (Dan persona), parlour is the daily driver. Once a quarter, an independent for a special session.
Safety: parlour wins for first-timers, draws at the regular tier
The first-time-anywhere argument for parlours is real. You can:
- Walk in without committing. If the place feels off, walk back out. You haven't paid.
- See the women in person before agreeing. The bait-and-switch issue (photo doesn't match the woman) is largely solved by walk-in selection.
- Leave money at reception in front of staff, not handed to a stranger in a private apartment.
- Have other staff on the premises. A receptionist, often a manager, sometimes other clients in the lobby. Independent risk events (mostly involving fake providers running scams or unsafe premises) are less likely in a busy commercial shop.
The independent-provider safety argument depends on her track record. A vetted independent with reviews on multiple sites, a long history at the same address, real photos verified by other punters: at that point the safety profile is roughly equal to a parlour. Sometimes better, because vetted providers have full control over hygiene and setup that a parlour distributes across multiple women on different shifts.
The dangerous middle ground is the unvetted Locanto-only listing. Real photos? Probably not. Real address? Could be. Real reviews? Almost never on Locanto. This is where bait-and-switch and outright scams concentrate. The parlour walk-in model insulates first-timers from this entirely; the independent model exposes them to it. The defence is to use a curated directory, real review aggregators, and avoid Locanto-only providers.
Discretion: depends on what you're hiding from
Different scenarios produce different answers.
Hiding from a partner who might check phone records and bank statements. Cash is universal, both options support cash. Bank statements: most parlours bill under generic merchant names; most independents do too. SMS and call records: an independent provider you've texted is in your message history; a parlour you walked into is not. Independent loses on this dimension if you don't delete carefully.
Hiding from being seen near a parlour. Independent (especially outcall) wins comprehensively. With a hotel outcall you've never entered any external building. With an apartment-incall independent you've entered a normal-looking apartment building, not stood on a footpath while someone unlocks a parlour door. With a parlour you've potentially been visible on the street and at a known parlour location.
Hiding from a colleague at the same hotel. Outcall is best (the provider comes to you). Discreet apartment-incall is second. Parlour is third, though if the parlour is in a different suburb from where your hotel and colleague are, the visibility risk drops.
Hiding from being on someone's CCTV. Outcall provider in your hotel room, no external building entry, payment in cash, no SMS history left on phone: this is the maximum discretion configuration. Mostly a Greg-the-FIFO scenario.
For most punters who aren't running maximum-paranoia: a parlour 15 minutes from where they live or work, paid in cash, on a route that's not part of normal life, is fine. For executives and high-risk punters, outcall is worth the premium.

Choice and variety: parlour wins for sampling, independent wins for specificity
A parlour with eight women on shift gives you eight options to choose from on the day. An independent gives you one. If you don't know what you want, parlour is the better starting point.
Conversely: if you know exactly what you want, a specific NURU specialist, a tantric practitioner with credentials, a four-hand pair who actually coordinate, the parlour model can't deliver that consistency. You're going to find specialists in the independent listings, not in a shop where the rotating staff includes whoever's currently working.
The other variable is rotation. Parlours rotate workers fast. The woman you saw last month may not be back. Independents are continuous. You can re-book the same woman six months later and she'll still be operating from the same address. For regulars who want to build a relationship with a provider, independents make that possible. For sampling, parlours are better.
Quality: it varies more by individual than by category
A common assumption is that independents are higher quality. It's only sometimes true.
What's actually true:
The high end is mostly independent. The top 5-10% of providers in Brisbane, by skill, by experience, by attention, operate as independents. Parlours generally don't pay enough to retain that tier of worker.
The bottom end is mostly parlour. The cheapest end of the market, sub-$120 sessions in outer-suburb shops, is almost entirely parlour. Independents below $200 are rare and usually have other red flags.
The middle is mixed. A $250 parlour session and a $300 independent session are often comparable in quality. The same session at the same price point can be excellent or mediocre depending on the specific woman, the day of the week, how busy she's been, and a dozen other factors.
The variable that matters more than parlour-vs-independent: who specifically you book. A well-reviewed worker at a parlour will outperform a no-review independent. A premium independent will outperform a parlour worker who's on her fifth client of the day.
Reviews and word of mouth are how you sort signal from noise. The directory's listings include review counts and ratings. Forum threads on AUS99 and PunterPlanet name names. Use them.
Booking experience
Parlour booking is approximately:
- Walk in, or call ahead to ask who's working
- Receptionist quotes the rate, you pick a session length
- Choose a worker (sometimes from photos, sometimes from a lineup)
- Pay door fee
- Follow her to the room
Total time from arrival to room: 5-10 minutes.
Independent booking is approximately:
- Find her listing, read reviews
- Text or email her with your name, session length, time, and a brief description (some providers screen)
- She replies with availability and confirms
- You arrive at the agreed time and address
- Pay her directly when you arrive
Total time from first contact to session: hours to days, depending on her availability.
Independents at the higher end may screen, asking for a phone number that can be called back, sometimes references from other providers. This is normal at the premium tier and increases your safety as much as hers. Don't be offended; provide what's asked.
Hybrid options
A few things blur the categories:
Independent providers operating from parlour-like premises. A house or apartment shared by two or three independents who work overlapping shifts. Walk-in availability, but each woman is independent. Found at the higher end of the Brisbane and Gold Coast scene. Listed in the directory under either category depending on how they self-identify.
Parlour workers who also operate independently. A woman might work three days at a parlour and two days from her own incall. Same provider, two different booking modes. If you find her at a parlour and like her, asking quietly whether she does private bookings is fine. Many do, on the side.
Outcall-only services. Some providers don't have an incall location at all. Outcall to your hotel or home only. Effectively independent, but with the booking experience matching parlour-style on-demand availability if their schedule allows.
Which to book first
If you've never been:
Book a parlour. A well-reviewed parlour, 60-minute FBSM, in a suburb you don't normally visit. Cash. Walk in, read the room, walk out if it's wrong. Total cost $200-$280, total exposure low. This is the right first session.
If you've been to parlours and are curious about independents:
Book a vetted independent. Find one with strong reviews on Scarlet Blue, the directory, and at least one forum mention. Book a 90-minute session. Spend more than your usual parlour visit ($350-$500). Expect a noticeably different experience: slower, more attentive, more individual.
If you're doing this regularly:
Use both. Parlours for routine (weekly or fortnightly). One specific independent who you re-book quarterly. This is how most experienced regulars actually operate.
